She also just kept giving encouragement when I needed it so I really felt like I had a good chance of meeting my objective of passing the exam.”

“I have started my career as a finance professional so none of the material was totally new (even though I had forgotten most of it, I realized). Tessa did a fantastic job at explaining complex finance issues in easy plan English that non-finance people can understand. It is quite difficult to do. I cannot praise the caliber of her instruction highly enough. I cannot say enough good things about Tessa, how she has set up her classroom, and her dedication to keeping in contact with her students to make sure they are on the right track. I’ve only taken one other online class, but I suggest you pattern your online class format off what Tessa has done. She is amazing!”

Why I Teach:
“Because the insurance industry needs informed, educated, interested professionals; and because I have been gifted with the ability to put abstract concepts into understandable forms, especially using analogies. This is of particular use in imparting insurance knowledge to both persons in the industry and lay people. Risk management is an evolving field which blends insurance, finance, accounting, and management. The insurance industry is never stagnant and every changing. Risk management and insurance require adaptation to be successful. That’s both the challenge and the fulfillment.

I enjoy teaching because I learn from teaching. Even courses that I taught for many years, I learn something different each time. I also believe that those with knowledge and experience have an obligation to share those with others. Knowledge unshared is knowledge wasted.”

“I felt you were a great instructor and wanted to let you know.”

“Thank you so much for being such a great instructor since I really don't think I could have passed that test otherwise. Your chapter notes on the educational objectives were a great help. I can't say that I plan to take the next class anytime soon but I hope if and when I do that you teach those classes too!”

“Your chapter reviews are right on! If everyone gets those concepts down, and learns the definitions of terms at the end of each chapter they should have no trouble.”

Years as Course Leader: 6
Number of Outstanding Classes: 3
Courses/Programs Taught: CPCU
Years in Insurance Industry: 22

Why I Teach:
"I believe that knowledge about the insurance industry will strengthen my company. ISO is very supportive of continuing education. I think that no matter what area you work in, you should get a background of insurance. CPCU 520 started out as Company Operations and has expended to include basic accounting and finance as well. It has many topics that can be useful down the road. For a new person to come into my area they are required to take actuarial exams. The first few are total math and stats. I encourage the new people to take my course to get the insurance background they need to pass further CAS exams as well as give them a background of general insurance knowledge. The more knowledge ISO's employees have, the stronger our company will be."
