Strategic Visioning
This program introduces a new conceptual framework and methodology for developing a corporate strategic vision. It focuses on concepts, frameworks, and techniques to link strategic vision to the organization’s core capabilities. Working through each module in groups, participants will learn a scenario-based strategic planning methodology they can apply to their own businesses.
Objectives
Using techniques to counter common thinking traps and biases, this scenario-based methodology
- addresses environmental complexity and uncertainty,
- helps identify the organizational capabilities required to deal with them, and
- focuses on how to develop and align core competencies at the corporate, divisional, or business unit levels.
Decision Making
The groups will explore the four main elements of the decision-making process. Each participant will learn to frame or define what must be decided; gather intelligence by seeking knowable facts and reasonable estimates of “unknowables;” come to conclusions using a systematic approach as a guide; and learn from feedback by reviewing the successes and failures of past decisions.
Key Success Factors
In their working groups, participants identify the key success factors required to win under their different scenarios and in their various segments. These factors are both resources and capabilities that an organization needs to succeed.
Core Competencies
Participants learn to use two different methodologies to identify their company’s core competencies in the business area they select. Groups then evaluate those core competencies on the different dimensions that constitute sustainable competitive advantage.
Strategic Vision
Using the key success factors as a guide, groups will develop a strategic vision for their line of business using scenarios and group analyses. Participants will also address the challenges of implementing the vision.
Strategic Options Implementation
Participants implement their strategic initiatives. They address obstacles, decision making, and information flows. The groups will refer to the core competencies they previously identified and use those to guide implementation.
