CPCU Course Content Revisions and Exam Options

CPCU 500
CPCU 510 was replaced with CPCU 500— Foundations of Risk Management and Insurance. The CPCU 500 exam consists of 60 objective questions and examinees have 90 minutes to complete the exam.

Note: Those who complete CPCU 500 must also satisfy the new CPCU Ethics requirement by passing the Ethics and the CPCU Code of Professional Conduct exam.

Ethics Requirement Revision

The Institutes have separated the study of ethics and the CPCU Code of Professional Conduct from the old CPCU 510 course and integrated it into the new free online Ethics and the CPCU Code of Professional Conduct (Ethics 312).

Individuals may satisfy the CPCU Ethics requirement as follows:

• Pass the essay exam for CPCU 510—Foundations of Risk Management, Insurance, and Professionalism by March 15, 2011, OR
• Pass the 50-question exam in Ethics and the CPCU Code of Professional Conduct (Ethics 312). We recommend taking Ethics 312 and passing the exam early in your CPCU Experience, as this provides a valuable ethical framework for the rest of your CPCU studies. You have a 90-day access to the material when you register.

There is no charge to complete Ethics and the CPCU Code of Professional Conduct. NOTE: Completing Ethics 312 will also satisfy the new ethics requirement for all other Institutes designations.

CPCU Course Content Revisions
In 2011, The Institutes phased in revisions to CPCU 552.

In 2010 we phased in revisions to CPCU 520, 530, and 540. Additionally, CPCU 551, 553, 555, and 557 textbooks and course guides were made available in August 2010. Self-study online courses for CPCU 500, 520, 530, 540, 551, 553, 555, and 557 were also made available.

Exam Options
Starting July 15, 2011, the CPCU 552 essay exam will be based on the revised study materials. Please note, grading delays may occur when exams are based on new or revised materials. Grades may not be available until after the testing window has closed.

Improved Matriculation Process
Those pursuing the CPCU designation must matriculate with The Institutes. We have made the matriculation process easier by moving it online. You complete a simple online form by logging on to our Web site at www.TheInstitutes.org.
