Associate in Claims (AIC)

AIC 33, 34, 35, and 36 Now Available Online!

The Associate in Claims program teaches you how to reduce time and costs, improve customer satisfaction and retention, and avoid costly lawsuits. With this program, you’ll improve your technical claim handling skills, communication and negotiation skills, good-faith claim handling abilities, and in-depth policy knowledge.

Passing the required AIC exams earns the Associate in Claims designation.

Choose one of the following five paths to earn the AIC designation:

Multiline: AIC 33, 34, 35, and 36

Personal Lines Auto and Liability: AIC 33, 34, and 36 plus either CPCU 553, CPCU 555,
or INS 22

Personal Lines Homeowners: AIC 33, 35, and 36 plus either CPCU 553, CPCU 555,

Program Options: The Associate in Claims designation program is available as a self-study program via printed textbooks and course guides or as online learning modules. AIC is also offered in a segmented format, which breaks each course and its corresponding exam into smaller, more manageable pieces.

Institutes Online instructor-led classes and public classes at third-party providers are also available for AIC, CPCU, and INS courses.

Print or Online, It’s Your Choice. Regardless of study method (online or text-based), AIC exams can be taken either as full-length course exams or, depending on the course, as two, three, or four segmented exams per course.

We Recommend AIC for: In-house claim adjusters, field claim adjusters, insurance litigators, senior customer service representatives, agency principals, and third-party administrators

Course Sequence: It is best to take AIC 33 first.

Exam Information: AIC 33, 34, 35, and 36; INS 22; and CPCU 551, 552, 553, and 555 exams are offered at Institute-approved on-site testing locations and Prometric Testing Centers.

If you prefer, you can approach your studies of AIC 33, 34, 35, and 36 and of INS 22 in a modular format consisting of a series of shorter study segments. You can do this in traditional print or using our new online delivery. After studying each segment, you can take the corresponding exam at all Prometric Testing Centers and at selected Institute-approved on-site testing locations. Contact your education coordinator for further information about on-site testing availability.

Full length AIC exams consist of 85 objective questions and examinees have two hours to complete the exam. Segmented AIC exams consist of 15 to 50 objective questions depending on the course and segment, and examinees have 60 minutes to complete the exam.

However, the Associate in Claims designation can be earned by completing one of the following pathways:

All four Associate in Claims courses, AIC 33, 34, 35, and 36, as well as INS 22, are presented in a segmented format that breaks each course into smaller portions.

The online versions and the text-based study of AIC and INS present the same material. Regardless of study method (online or text-based), AIC and INS exams can be taken either as full-length course exams or as several segmented exams per course.
