This group of discussion forums is provided by the American Institute for CPCU and the Insurance Institute of America solely as a means for students to exchange ideas and ask questions of each other as they study courses. For additional guidelines for using these forums, review below.
How do I get started?
- Click on the name of the board or conference you want to enter.
- If you are a new user of the discussion boards, you will need to create a user account. If you are an existing discussion board user, log in using the username and password you created. (You may be automatically logged in to the discussion board when you click on the program name if you are accessing from the same computer previously used.)
- You may log in as guest, but will have read-only privileges. To post a message, you must create an account.
- Special note: Your student ID and PIN are not related to this discussion board. If you have never created a discussion board account, you will need to create one to participate.
General Posting Procedure Notes
Once you have logged in, click on the name of the course or subject in which you are interested.
- To read existing postings, click on the message title. (If you click on the first message in a string of messages, they will all open.)
- To reply to a posting, click on Reply, located in the list of options directly above or below the message.
- To post a new message, unrelated to an existing posting, at the top of the screen, click Post.
- To receive e-mail notification of new postings to this board, click More at the top of the screen. Then click 'My Watch Lists' and check the boxes of the conferences (courses) to which you want to subscribe.
When you post, it would be helpful to indicate in the subject field what course and assignment or topic you are posting about.
Appropriate Postings
Students may use these forums to discuss among themselves the course content and the national examinations. Appropriate topics include educational objectives, review and application questions, concepts and principles, practice exam writing, and exam-taking tips.
Course instructors and course sponsors may use these forums to discuss topics of mutual interest such as classroom learning
strategies or course leader recruitment techniques.
Students and course leaders must remember that they are
competitors or potential competitors in the market subject to antitrust laws. Therefore, these forums should never be used to discuss any of the following topics in the context of any actual company, market, customer, or potential customer:
- Rating, pricing, cost or profit information
- Underwriting guidelines or underwriting suggestions
- Company marketing strategies
- Marketing response to legislative or regulatory developments
- Recommendations to avoid doing business in any part of the country
- Suggestions to refuse to deal with or boycott any potential insureds
- Suggestions to refuse to deal with or use any suppliers of insurance products or services
Posting Etiquette—Key Elements
Please remember this is a forum for professional insurance education.
- Post no commercial ventures or business names.
- Be subject related and briefly stated.
- Summarize or restate the question or issue to which you are responding.
- Avoid vulgar or obscene language.
